The industrial giant known to man as China produces a staggering 65% of the world’s clothing. But what gets discarded and washed away is even more jaw dropping. According to Linda Greer, Program Director of Clean by Design, there is a phrase that goes:
“You know the color that’s going to be in fashion next season by the color of the rivers in China.”
The water pollution that results from the textile industry is only one mess among many that the conscious fashion world would like to see cleaned up. It will take nothing less than due diligence to understand the causes and effects of every supply chain choice we make and a lot of helping each other develop solutions along the way.
