Winter break has arrived, and I thought I’d give you all a little update as to my whereabouts over the last couple months. As a Textile and Apparel Design student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I’ve been working hard to build my portfolio and preparing for my last semester in Madison. Plans for NYC are brewing, but more on that later!
Design Gallery at UW-Madison.
The fall semester finale was this year’s annual portfolio review for third year design students (gallery showcase event above). I was proud and thankful to be one of four student designers honored with a Portfolio of Distinction Award!
My new-ish online portfolio is up at stephaniecarnes.com, to which I will be adding more featured projects.
Another exciting tidbit includes a fair trade fashion boutique that opened its doors in Madison this past September called Change Boutique. I recently started working with the owner, Nikki Anderson, and right now we’re seeking to build collaborations between some of her awesome vendors and the Design Studies department at UW-Madison.
The goal: to create partnerships that will merge new design ideas with increased awareness of supply chain ethics and fair trade practices. We’re currently working on a competition that will allow a winning student designer the opportunity to have their design(s) produced by one of the store’s vendors (that values artisan craft and pays workers a fair wage) and sold exclusively at Change Boutique.
Change is located at 1252 Williamson St. in Madison Wis., changeboutique.com. Stop in for some Just Coffee or a Saturday mimosa (I kid not) while you shop a growing range of ethical brands produced both domestically and abroad.
